On October 30th, Can Tho City leaders honored to receive and work with the General Consulate of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Delegation, led by Ms. Emily Hamblin.
The two sides exchanged economic development and expressed their wish to promote bilateral cooperation in fields of energy, manufacturing and other industries, especially the high technical industries such as: aviation, automobile industries .
Ms. Emily Hamblin highly appreciated outstanding economic development as well as potential development of Can Tho City, a capital of the Mekong Delta Region.
Over the past time, the UK has made significant investments in Can Tho City through FDI projects in fields of marine transport services, as well as services in entertainment dining, education, and tourism. hotels... with a total registered capital of more than 48 million USD. However, this is a modest figure compared to the economic potential of both sides.
Ms. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, said that the UK and Northern Ireland are first industrial development places in the world, with strengths in the energy, manufacturing and other industries, especially high-tech, aviation, automobile industries.
Based on the strength of the UK and the city's development investment needs, Can Tho called for paying attention to invest in the fields of processing and supporting industries, especially in the Information Technology Zone from The UK and Northern Ireland investors. Specifically, investing in the Information Technology Zone (about 20.03 ha) in Hung Thanh ward, Cai Rang district.
In 2019, exporting quota of Can Tho City to the UK and Northern Ireland were 12.6 million USD and 443.8 thousand USD, respectively. The main exporting items are aquatic products, seafood, garments.
In the beginning 9 months of 2020, the city's exporting quota to the UK is 10.8 million USD, the main export items are seafood, seafood, and apparel.
